Sleetmute is a small, remote community in western Alaska, located along the Kuskokwim River. It is accessible only by small planes that land on a dirt runway or by boat during the summer months. The population of Sleetmute is around 100 people, primarily members of the Yup'ik Eskimo community. The economy is based on subsistence activities such as fishing, hunting, and trapping, as well as some tourism and a few small businesses. There is a health clinic, a school, and a post office in the community. Winter temperatures are extremely cold, with highs often remaining below freezing, and the summer season is short with cool temperatures and frequent rain. The community is surrounded by beautiful scenery, including mountains and rivers, and is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore the Alaskan wilderness.
